Domestic violence - how can you help with DV Safe Phone

11th August 2022

Are you aware that domestic and family violence is the main driver of homelessness among women, children and men? Even worse, on average one woman per week and one man per month die at the hands of a partner.

In situations like these, one of the most important tools a victim can have to help them survive is a mobile phone, unfortunately this is often one of the first items that an abuser will confiscate, break or bug.

We strongly believe that every single person in our society should feel safe and protected, so we partnered with DV Safe Phone to take action on this matter.

At DV Safe Phone they collect, repurpose and gift mobile phones to victims of domestic violence (DV) through registered charities, safe houses and authorities serving this vulnerable community. These phones are then provided as part of an individual's 'safe' or 'escape' plan, offering a lifeline to call for help when it is needed most.

To date, DV Safe Phone has received over seven thousand phones from the community and currently over two thousand five hundred DV survivors are supported by a DV Safe Phone.

Having something as simple as a mobile phone, a lifeline to call for help or a way to escape from situations where otherwise they would have none, means the world to a victim of domestic violence.

At King IT we fully support the DV Safe Phone team and the community of domestic violence survivors and victims that they assist. As a registered collection point, we collect and repurpose old phones and donate them to the charity so that they can continue to save lives.

If you have any unused mobile phones sitting at home gathering dust, bring them into King IT to ensure they find a new purpose helping out someone desperately in need. Together we can make a difference.
